Due to current threats of divisive nationalism, the Security Council has decided to extend the authorization of the EU-led multinational stabilization force in Bosnia and Herzegovina for one year.
All the 15 members of the Council agreed on the necessity to keep the presence of both EU Force Althea and NATO in the country.
Bosnia and Herzegovina have joined the United Nations in 1992 and faced a tragic conflict in 1995. 2018 seems to be a decisive year to the country as it will have elections. Therefore, the EU-led force will remain there so as to ensure the elections can be held peacefully and the results will be implemented.
