SECURITY COUNCIL points out both ISIL and Syrian Government were responsible for use of chemical weapons

November 9, 2017

The head of the Security Council-mandated investigation on the use of chemical weapons in Syria, Edmond Mulet, said this week that there is enough evidence of the involvement of both ISIL and Syrian Government on what happened in Syria on September, 2016 and April, 2017.

According to him, ISIL used súlfur mustard during an attack in Umm Hawsh in September 2016 and the Syrian government was responsible for releasing sarin during an attack in Khan Shaykhun in April 2017.

The Mechanism interviewed more than 30 witnesses and reviewed 2,247 photos, 1,284 videos, 120 audio files and 639 documents.

Now, the Security Council will have to decide what will be the next stops.
