On the UN Day, Secretary-General visited wounded peacekeepers in Africa

October 25, 2017

In different parts of the world, people celebrated the United Nations Day - a date to remember when the Charter of the United Nations entered into force in 1945. Here, in the UK, UNA-UK (United Nations Association) along with The Swedish Embassy in London invited some of our members to join the celebrations and the Secretary-General, António Guterres, decided to devote this date to pay tribute to thousands of UN peacekeepers who made sacrifices while working for peace.

"I want to say that we need to make sure that the world fully appreciates the heroic contributions of peacekeepers protecting civilians, sometimes in extremely difficult circumstances, like the ones we face in the Central African Republic" - said Mr. Guterres during his visit to a hospital in Bangui, capital of the Central African Republic.
